PRASA/FIETA REACHES OUT

PRASA/FIETA CONTRACTS WITH ASSOCIATION FOR THE DISABLED

Sally’s Workshop is a Protective Workshop for Intellectually Challenged Men and Women. The majority of our workers are from Alexandra Township in Johannesburg. We also employ workers from the surrounding suburbs as well as the residents of San Salvador Home for Intellectually Challenged Women. We deal with a variety of disabilities which include Downs Syndrome, Alcohol Fetal Syndrome, Phsychiatric cases, Cerebral Palsy, Schizophrenia and Grand Mal Epilepsy.

We have 80 permanent workers, of which 80% are Black and 20% are Asian, Colored or White. We have a 50/50% ratio of men and women. All our workers receive a weekly stipend and in some cases our workers are the sole bread winners of their families.

The more contract work we secure, the better their salaries. Sally’s Workshop is a NPO and NGO. The Catholic Diocese of Johannesburg owns our premises and the Dominican Sisters oversee all our Outreach programmes.

We rely on contract work to promote self-sustainability and have several existing contracts. We have been doing contract work, which entails assembly of products, packaging, sealing and labeling for the last twelve years. We collect and deliver the contract work on a daily basis. We have a sound relationship with our Corporates and rely heavily on their support. Most companies honour their Social Responsibility Programme by supporting our Workshop. It is a pleasure to work for our various Corporates and they continue to be supportive, professional and reliable. They demand a high standard of work and we are happy to oblige. Our Corporates always sponsor and support our end of year functions and are always willing to assist where they can.

We welcome PRASA (Paper Recycling Association of South Africa) and FIETA (Forest Industries Education and Training Authority) to our list of Corporates and look forward to many years of a good and sound working relationship.

Please do not hesitate to contact me, should you have any queries.

Sincerely, Philip Schäffler
